Mediterranean Alzheimer Alliance

MAAIn 2013, the AMPA launched the Mediterranean Alzheimer Alliance (MAA), its largest international project, which brought together 17 Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Cyprus, Croatia, Egypt, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Morocco, Monaco, Portugal, Slovenia, Tunisia and Turkey).

This network of experts brought together scientists, national Alzheimer’s associations and care professionals from across the Mediterranean region.

Coordinated by the AMPA until it ceased operations in 2018, the MAA’s main objectives were:

  • to help Alzheimer’s stakeholders in the Mediterranean develop their initiatives,
  • to highlight and promote the needs and specific characteristics of this region to the international Alzheimer’s community,
  • to encourage the sharing and exchange of knowledge and practices,
  • to be a source of proposals and actions for policy makers in order to make Alzheimer’s disease a public health priority in all these countries,
  • to develop and support associative, scientific and academic collaborations in the Mediterranean.

The Mediterranean Alzheimer Alliance was supported by a multidisciplinary Mediterranean scientific committee, which informed and guided the network’s strategy and actions.
