Monitor your general health

A healthy diet, keeping your brain active, exercising, and maintaining a social life can all help prevent Alzheimer’s disease. However, studies show that certain health problems and lifestyles increase the risk of developing the disease.

LifestyleHealth tips:

  • Have your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar checked regularly, or as recommended by your doctor. Heart disease and diabetes can threaten your brain health.
  • Watch your weight. Obesity is a recognized risk factor.
    Limit your alcohol consumption.
    Stop smoking. Your doctor can help you with this.
    Protect your head when playing sports, for example by wearing a helmet when cycling or skiing.

  • Avoid stress;
  • Protect and respect your sleep. Sleep disorders become more pronounced with age;
  • Have your eyesight, hearing, and oral hygiene checked regularly.
