Monitor your general health
A healthy diet, keeping your brain active, exercising, and maintaining a social life can all help prevent Alzheimer’s disease. However, studies show that certain health problems and lifestyles increase the risk of developing the disease.
Health tips:
- Have your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar checked regularly, or as recommended by your doctor. Heart disease and diabetes can threaten your brain health.
- Watch your weight. Obesity is a recognized risk factor.
Limit your alcohol consumption.
Stop smoking. Your doctor can help you with this.
Protect your head when playing sports, for example by wearing a helmet when cycling or skiing. - Avoid stress;
- Protect and respect your sleep. Sleep disorders become more pronounced with age;
- Have your eyesight, hearing, and oral hygiene checked regularly.
