To mark World Alzheimer’s Day 2018, AMPA, in partnership with Monaco’s gerontology sector, is publishing an information and support brochure for family carers to help them better understand Alzheimer’s disease and provide daily support to people with neurodegenerative diseases.
Educational and easily accessible, this booklet answers the main questions and concerns of families. It describes the disorders associated with Alzheimer’s disease, explains its progression and risk factors, and above all seeks to reassure and encourage the general public to come and benefit from a specialist memory consultation in Monaco.
It also provides practical advice to carers to make everyday life easier (waking up, showering, meals, activities, night-time, etc.), as well as anticipating certain situations, such as moving into a care home or managing assets.
Another topic discussed is the importance of maintaining relationships and communication and dealing with certain attitudes. This booklet therefore provides useful guidelines that everyone can adapt to their own circumstances.
Finally, this brochure aims to list all the specialised facilities in Monaco, the assistance available, the contact details of the various people to contact, and specifies the professionals who can provide home care support.
