Alzheimer and Mediterranean Report 2016Publication of the first Alzheimer and Mediterranean report

On the occasion of World Alzheimer’s Day 2016, the Monegasque Association for Research on Alzheimer’s Disease (AMPA), chaired by Catherine Pastor, published the first Alzheimer and Mediterranean report and launched the Mediterranean Alzheimer Alliance at a press conference held at the Embassy of Monaco in Paris on September 14, 2016, in the presence of H.E. Claude Cottalorda, Ambassador of the Principality to France. An unprecedented mobilization across the Mediterranean region to make Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders a public health priority in this area.

Initiated by the Monegasque Association for Research on Alzheimer’s Disease, the Mediterranean Alzheimer Alliance was launched in 2013 and currently comprises 17 Mediterranean countries: Algeria, Cyprus, Croatia, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Morocco, Monaco, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Tunisia, and Turkey.

One of the Alliance’s first achievements was the publication of the report “Alzheimer and the Mediterranean.” This report presents the results of the ALZMED (Alzheimer and the Mediterranean) study, conducted between June 2013 and July 2014 by the Monegasque Association for Research on Alzheimer’s Disease (AMPA).

The first report to address the issues related to Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders specific to the Mediterranean region, it aims to assess the needs related to this disease and analyze the emerging medical and societal challenges in this area.

This report also proposes recommendations at the regional and international levels to anticipate the necessary responses for improved support and care for this disease.
