Publication of the First Alzheimer’s and Mediterranean Report
On 14 September 2016, ahead of World Alzheimer’s Day, the Monegasque Association for Research on Alzheimer’s Disease (AMPA), chaired by Catherine Pastor, published the first Alzheimer’s and the Mediterranean report at a press conference held at the Embassy of Monaco in Paris. The event was attended by H.E. Claude Cottalorda, Monaco’s Ambassador to France, and marked a major initiative to make Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders a public health priority across the Mediterranean region.
The Mediterranean Alzheimer Alliance
Initiated by AMPA, the Mediterranean Alzheimer Alliance was launched in 2013. It brought together 17 Mediterranean countries: Algeria, Cyprus, Croatia, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Morocco, Monaco, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey.
The Alzheimer’s and Mediterranean Report
One of the Alliance’s first achievements was the publication of Alzheimer’s and the Mediterranean, a report presenting the findings of the ALZMED (Alzheimer’s and the Mediterranean) study, conducted by AMPA between June 2013 and July 2014.
As one of the first reports to examine Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders specifically in the Mediterranean region, it aimed to assess local needs and analyse emerging medical and societal challenges.
The report also put forward recommendations at regional and international levels, with the aim of anticipating future needs and improving care and support for people affected by the disease.
